Northern Ballet April 2018

We were honoured to welcome Northern Ballet to West Meadows as they provided terrific workshops for Years 2 and 3. The movement sequences were terrific and we learned so much in the exciting and engaging sessions. Well done everyone and huge thanks to Phillippa and her team. A wonderful morning with top class visiting tutors.

Our Voices 2018

What an amazing project! Years 3 and 4 travelled to the Academy Theatre Birdwell and performed to a packed house! The occasion was absolutely magnificent as our talented singers worked through their long repertoires. A huge thank you to ALL staff, our amazing Band – organised by Mr. Ormondroyd, Mr. Marsh our Governor, Nathan and Mr. Mitchell and of course  Barnsley Music Hub’s premier saxophonist Miss Laycock. The biggest accolades of course go to our performing stars who were supported in typically outstanding fashion by our #WonderfulCommunity. It really was a night to remember!

Opera North Training Workshop

We were delighted to host Opera North’s Schools Workshop at West Meadows. Our Year 5 children will be working to learn some Wartime Songs with Opera North and Mr. Ormondroyd, a project that climaxes with a concert at Barnsley Civic on Tuesday 3rd July. They begin the work on 26th April with Opera North, a wonderful opportunity.

EYFS Scrapbook Magic

Wow! This young man was given a challenge – ‘Make a scrapbook all about you!’ We couldn’t wait to show his efforts. The pencil that he used for his writing has been scanned so that it is visible, it has changed his pictures slightly in terms of colour. The writing and then reading is of a tremendous standard. Really well done, challenge accepted, challenge met! What could be next we wonder?

Galleria de West Meadows

Thanks to the sterling organisational skills of Miss Steele and then the fabulous work of Mr. Armstrong we are proud to reveal our Entrance Area Gallery. Featuring a piece of Art from every class, we have adorned our main entrance area with the children’s beautiful work, taken from our whole school gallery project. Each class is represented. Really well done everyone. Some beautiful art work for our #WonderfulCommunity to share every time they visit school.

Writing Star @WMPrimaryY1

What a great start to the new year in Year 1! This star has worked on his lower case letters using road signs around our community as an inspiration. He has then showcased his reading and writing skills using a very well known story – enjoy his amazing efforts that started the term off right here.

Year 2 Explorers Assembly 2018

Year 2 provided our #WonderfulCommunity with a superb Class Assembly. They have been studying explorers – Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus have been their primary sources of inspiration. We loved meeting both of these pioneers. Columbus certainly ‘survived’ the task of entertaining us with song. Armstrong didn’t escape a warning from Buzz Aldrin after planting the Star Spangled Banner in to the moon’s surface. Some super singing, rocket launching and the Flat Stanley project also entertained the packed house. Thank you to Mrs. Parkes, Mr. Ormondroyd and Mrs. Dewson for their hard work and an enormous well done to our amazing Year 2 performers.

Year 3 Class Assembly – Monet, Animal Antics and Much More

Where do we start? Year 3 shared their term’s learning with our #WonderfulCommunity and managed to incorporate an amazing number of subjects. As well as Science, Art, Music, English and ICT, they even managed to arrange visits from animals and Claude Monet himself! Science and Art really proved to be superb driving forces of the Assembly as a full house remained captivated for its entire duration. Thank you to Mrs. Westwood, Mrs. Hannaghan, Miss Grange, Mrs. Roberts and Miss Parkinson for their terrific hard work with the children. An enormous well done to the wonderful performers involved. A spectacular end to what has been a terrific term in Year 3.

Year 1 & The Great Fire

What a performance! Year 1 transported us all the way back to 1666 and told us the story of ‘The Great Fire of London’. They remembered all their lines, spoke very clearly, showed us their amazing work and sang beautifully. We are very proud of them! Thank you to our #WonderfulCommunity for their continued support and to the Year 1 Staff Team. An enormous well done to our star performers, a great afternoon.
