Candlemas 2018

Many thanks to our Local Parish Priest and School Governor Father Richard and Father Paul for leading our Assembly on Candlemas. Candlemas is a church festival staged in February in honour of the presentation of the infant Jesus in the Temple. As always it was a pleasure to welcome Father Richard and Paul in to school. The children were certainly mesmerised bythe apple device (for once not electronic) and even more shocked to see a £5 note inside the lemon! They had predicted that the lemon may not be as tasty/ attractive as the other fruits on show! A lovely morning.

Thank You & Well Done

Wow just wow! Led by our Super Sisters from Years 3 and 5 our #WonderfulCommunity raised £140 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital (a charity VERY close to this lovely family’s heart). Along with £20 from a family friend and £40 from other family members, an amazing £200 was donated. The nurses were so pleased with their visit. The money will go to PACT (Parents of children with cancer and tumours) an organisation based at the hospital and will be used to help children and families undergoing gruelling chemotherapy treatment. Incredible work, really well done.

Merry Christmas from MP Stephanie Peacock

We were delighted to welcome Stephanie Peacock MP for a special visit to West Meadows; a Christmas Card Winning Presentation! Fabulous designs were submitted from a collection of schools and children of all primary school ages within Stephanie’s constituency. Our two runners-up came from EYFS 2 and Year 3. However, the OVERALL winner and the design which Stephanie will sign 2000 times has come from our very own Year 6 superstar! He received a £50 Tesco voucher as well as a £10 book voucher for his stunning effort. A wonderful Friday at West Meadows. Thank you Stephanie – a pleasure to welcome you to school.

The Choir entertained and performed yesterday at The Core in Barnsley for the residential care unit. School Council Stars

Our School Council were invited to the dementia cafe at St Andrew’s court, in Hoyland. The children sang Christmas carols, listened to memories, drew a raffle, had juice and biscuits and took part in armchair aerobics. The residents and children loved every minute and certainly enjoyed the magic tricks on offer. It was really lovely to see the children interacting with the residents and having a such a super time. The children’s behaviour was impeccable and great mutual respect was on show. Thank you to Mrs. Walton for her leadership in this opportunity to represent West Meadows in our wider #WonderfulCommunity.

Advent 2017

It probably comes as no surprise that lots of children are currently showing great excitement over the fact that it’s almost Christmas! Well at West Meadows, it’s time to thank two members of our #WonderfulCommunity. Firstly to Mrs. Crossland (Mrs. Walton’s Mum) for our beautiful Advent Ring. Also to Father Richard who visited us to explain this period. The different candles on our Advent Ring commemorate different things – white is for the birth of Jesus and this candle is lit on Christmas Day. The first candle is for the Patriarch then the second for the prophets. The pink candle is for the third Sunday of advent and the 4th candle for Mary, mother of Jesus. A lovely morning which even included a visit to nursery!
