Captains Table 2018

West Meadows are so proud of all the children who earned a prestigious place at the Captain’s Table for 100% attendance for the school year. They were waited on by staff at lunchtime and received gifts for their amasing achievement. Thank you to Mrs. Maree & Mrs. Beever for arranging this wonderful celebration. An astonishing 37 children achieved this amazing accolade – almost double last year’s 19! Great work.

Eden Camp 2018

Year 6, accompanied by some Year 5s, had a wonderful day at Eden Camp, North Yorkshire. A former Prisoner of War Camp, the Museum is dedicated largely to World War II – a recent topic. Some of the Evacuee Outfits were simply amazing as our children as well as several excited adults were evacuated to the North! Exhibitions such as Women At War, The Home Front, The Blitz & The U-Boat Menace ensured we reviewed our learning but also learnt an enormous amount of new information. Thank you to all of the supporting adults, well done to Mrs. Brown for organising the trip and especially well done to all 38 children who had a special day away from School. The Gift Shop Manager was certainly pleased to see all of them! A day to remember!

Race for Life

We are SO proud of this Year 3 superstar. She has joined Mum in completing Race for Life 2018. The fun part was then prising open Mr. Mitchell’s wallet as shown here! An amazing cause supported beautifully by our #WonderfulCommunity

Creative Arts Week 2018

What a week and where to start? The whole school had a sensational time during Creative Arts Week, all themed around China. Mrs Parkes did a magnificent job organising a host of exciting activities and visitors as the film reveals. A sensational week incorporated dance, music, food, art and even lantern flights. Well done everyone, we all know SO much more about another exciting culture. A week to remember.

Clean Air Day 2018

We had a very special day and some special visitors at West Meadows as we celebrated Clean Air Day 2018. We became the first school EVER in Barnsley to close the road at school time (courtesy of Barnsley Council) so that we could walk to school, cycle or scoot to school and even enjoy a walking bus with Dave the Histrionics story teller! The children enjoyed a breakfast on West Street as well as Art games, cycling and scooting. The day was so special that it even got the attention of ITV Calendar as we became TV Stars overnight. Thank you to our friend ‘Bike-It Dave’ and his friends at Barnsley Council. The biggest mention goes to our #WonderfulCommunity for the amazing support shown to us as always. Well done everyone, it was great to enjoy some even cleaner air than usual in lovely Hoyland.

Year 5 Opera North Workshop 2

Year 5 enjoyed a terrific second workshop with Opera North in preparation for the World War Singing Event at Barnsley’s Civic Theatre. Matt and Rachel were just amazing with the children as they produced a vast array of war time classics. The concert itself will be an extremely emotive evening and it is a huge honour for West Meadows to enjoy this event as stars of the show. Really well done Year 5 and thank you again to Opera North for sharing your incredible expertise.

Pentecost 2018

Father Richard and Father Paul joined us to celebrate Pentecost. Some Christians believe this event represents the birthday of the Church. As a result we used balloons to celebrate! The holy day is also called “White Sunday” or “Whitsunday”, especially in the United Kingdom, where traditionally the next day, Whit Monday, is also a public holiday. The Monday after Pentecost is a legal holiday in many European nations too. Thank you to Father Richard and Father Paul for spending more time at West Meadows – it’s always a privilege to welcome them.

Minecraft Skills

Years 5 and 6 have been using their Creative Computing Skills within Minecraft to celebrate the Royal Wedding. They have constructed wedding scenes and coded in scripts for characters to read out. The children manipulated lighting and recorded the screens themselves to share with the internet. Great work, really well done.

A Special Lunch

A superb meal was enjoyed by huge numbers of our fabulous children as we celebrated the forthcoming Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan. The children looked regal in their crowns and devoured the fayre provided by Lynn and our wonderful staff kitchen team. A superb day in school and of course, congratulations to our most famous British Family of them all!

Tour de Yorkshire 2018

What a day! Our lovely school led the Tour de Yorkshire celebrations in Hoyland – we could not have been any prouder! The singing was great, the cheering amazing and the market stall just perfect – an amazing £335 was raised! Thank you to the staff for their hard work but most of all the children and families who were able to support us. It was truly wonderful day. We were also thrilled with the beautiful TV coverage of the sensational Kes 50th anniversary art work – we are so proud that our children contributed to this special piece. Their work being shown to millions is something they can talk about forever.  It was a privilege to see Hoyland at the sporting centre of the world, our #WonderfulCommunity coming together perfectly!

Mothering Sunday 2018

What can we say? Well we love our ‘Lovely Ladies’ and took time to say this! (as well as Thank You of course.) Mothering Sunday is a special time for us to reflect. Thank you to Mrs. Walton for your organisation of our writing work for our Mums and to Mrs. Walton’s Mum for the wonderful floral gifts. A really lovely presentation and an afternoon to remember.
