Magical Maths

Some superb work in Year 6 – the Maths has been all around calculations, “BODMAS” and completing calculations in the correct order. Fabulous work, really well done.

Parliament Matters

Year Six have taken part in UK Parliament week 2018. We discussed how the UK parliamentary system works and how motions are passed through the House of Commons. We then created our own political campaigns and thought of slogans to help get our messages across in a memorable way. As a class we then voted which bill we though should be passed.

Crucial Crew 2018

We visited Crucial Crew to find out about how to keep safe in all aspects of life. We learned about road safety, arson, crime and punishment, as well as some basic first aid. We had a great fun and learned how to keep up safe as we think about moving to secondary school. We weren’t quite so sure about the new Bus Drivers however! A brilliant day, well done Year 6.

We attended the Key Stage 2 St. Mary’s Academy Trust Winter Athletics Competition at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. The magnificent venue inspired our Key Stage 2 Team as we emulated our younger stars by collecting the trophy! Thank you to everyone who supported us – the West Meadows’ Backing was huge! An enormous well done to Miss Grange and the team who provided us with anyone unforgettable afternoon of awesome athletics. A great achievement.

A Master Plan

Our new Y6 School Councillor has begun his role with this fundraising idea. He is keen to protect a classmate who has an allergy to wasp stings in a range of supportive ways. This formed part of his election mandate. A great start to your new role, really well done.

Brass Progress Oct 2018

Two Year 6 stars have switched from their Year 5 Tenor Horn focus. With Barnsley Music Hub, they have chosen trombone and cornet to further their musical journey. Mr. Dodd is amazed at their progress after only three lessons on their new instruments. Really well done, you’re sounding great!

Headteacher’s Superstar Award

Our Key Stage 1 Headteacher’s Superstar is from Year 2. She is a fabulous learner who gives 100% to all of her work both at school and at home. She brightens our day every day with her hard work and pursuit of excellence. Our Key Stage 2 Headteacher’s Superstar is from Year 6. He is a fabulous role model and leads by example in everything he does – he gave a brave performance at the Cross Country last week at Birdwell. He also excels in all academic areas and has wowed the Year 6 team with his dedication to his work across the curriculum. Two superb West Meadows role models, really well done.
