Snow Fun

We had a wonderful time enjoying the snow in school as one would expect! Years 4 and 5 are shown here building snow people, making angels and enjoying the freshly fallen snow! Thank you to all of the staff who helped prepare school ready for the children – Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Mitchell, Mrs. Dewson and Mrs. Maree certainly led the way to make sure we were all safe and that school was open on time! A great day enjoying some special weather.

Buddhism Awareness Day

We have had an amazing experience; two Buddhists visited West Meadows Primary School; Dharmamayi and Garava! First, we experienced a fun filled assembly retelling the story of Buddha with drama role play. We also learned about special symbols and what they mean to a Buddhist. Each class took part in a workshop where they learned about the history of Buddhism through art work, the pupils discovered new artefacts and how they were used, team games where children put giant jigsaw puzzles together showing different images from the faith, a quiz where the children learned the main beliefs of this special way of life and finally the peaceful meditation. We had a wonderful day and would like to thank our special visitors for delivering an insightful and terrific workshop. Many thanks also go to Mrs. Evans – our driving force in RE. A superb experience for our wonderful children.

Thank You & Well Done

Wow just wow! Led by our Super Sisters from Years 3 and 5 our #WonderfulCommunity raised £140 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital (a charity VERY close to this lovely family’s heart). Along with £20 from a family friend and £40 from other family members, an amazing £200 was donated. The nurses were so pleased with their visit. The money will go to PACT (Parents of children with cancer and tumours) an organisation based at the hospital and will be used to help children and families undergoing gruelling chemotherapy treatment. Incredible work, really well done.

Christingle 2017

What a beautiful morning! Our final event of the Christmas Period was our annual Christingle Service at St. Peter’s Church. Thank you to Father Richard (School Governor) for his support and to the huge congregation of parents and friends. Mrs. Evans organised a moving service, led by our Year 6 Superstars. We wish every family a wonderful Christmas Period and of course a Happy New Year.

Settle Yourselves Down – Years 3, 4 and 5 Christmas Performance

It’s a YES from everyone who was lucky enough to enjoy our Years 3-5 Christmas Performances!

Wow!

Our #WonderfulCommunity were entertained by over 90 children singing, dancing and acting in ‘Strictly Come the Xmas Factor!’ Our Musical Maestro (Mr. Ormondroyd) excelled himself with an entertaining show that displayed a tyrannical Mrs. Walton (she’s so lovely usually), a heartbroken Mr. Mitchell who was desperate for his water machine to work and an appearance by Father Christmas himself! But thankfully, it wasn’t a problem for our performing stars to shine at Christmas time as all entrants proved to be winners in the special script.

Thank you so much to the staff for their hard work, to our #WonderfulCommunity for the support and an enormous well done to Years 3, 4 and 5! An amazing experience to share.

Enterprise Finals 2017

Many thanks to Larger than Life Enterprise for a great finals day experience. Our Years 5 and 6 winning team went to Tankersley Manor Hotel with Mr. Mitchell and Mrs. Batley to share their award winning play facilities with a judging panel. The day included a drumming workshop as well as great tips on Enterprise from Ashleigh Porter-Exley, an outstanding entrepreneur of TV fame. Well done to Summer Lane Primary School for winning the event overall! A brilliant day – well done to our Enterprise Stars!

Woodlands Lodge Visit for Year 5 Choir

Wow! What an amazing visit for our Year 5 Choir! They gave a terrific performance to a very appreciative audience. All the residents and staff at Woodlands Lodge had a great afternoon listening to our wonderful children share traditional, well known modern songs and our new Christmas Carol that’s working so well throughout school. Thank you to Mr. Marsh for accompanying us (Governor) and of course a special mention to the music man himself Mr. Ormondroyd! Enjoy the Christmas Cheer they spread so beautifully.

Direct Speech

Perfect punctuation has been the aim in Year 5. There are ways to address a WALT and there are ways to address a WALT! Enjoy some beautiful language here, and the punctuation too of course. Tremendous work, well done young man.
