Year 1 & The Great Fire

What a performance! Year 1 transported us all the way back to 1666 and told us the story of ‘The Great Fire of London’. They remembered all their lines, spoke very clearly, showed us their amazing work and sang beautifully. We are very proud of them! Thank you to our #WonderfulCommunity for their continued support and to the Year 1 Staff Team. An enormous well done to our star performers, a great afternoon.

National Emergency Services Museum

Year 1 and 2 had a great time at the National Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield. We loved exploring the old fire engines and police cars and pretending we were driving them.  We had an amazing time dressing up and talking about the Great Fire of London. We all really enjoyed our trip. Thank you to Mrs. Fitzsimmons and her army of helpers – including Miss Knox’s Dad for helping us to enjoy such a great day.

Take Off & Landing in Year 1

Year 1 have been working on Coding & problem solving using Swift Code and Drones! At ICT Club, we managed to make the drone air borne but didn’t have a smooth landing! Could we fix this problem? Of course, we could. A fabulous session, well done Mr. Child and especially to our Year 1 programmers.

Fire of ‘London’

In Year 1 our new topic is the Great Fire of London. To introduce this exciting unit of learning, we constructed the city of London using a range of materials. The children spent a whole morning looking at maps of London and pictures of landmarks/buildings such as the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. Once the research was completed, we made our very own City of London! Unfortunately, as in 1666, “London” set on fire. The aim was for children to gain an understanding of what it is like to lose something to fire. Of course, when the task was completed (safely) we talked to the city construction workers about why we ‘destroyed London’ and the children really empathised with our capital’s citizens of yester year. A fantastic day which generated excitement, discussion and MANY questions. Well done everybody and thank you to our #WonderfulCommunity for your support in the topic launch; the ‘wow factor’ was certainly evident!

Buddhism Awareness Day

We have had an amazing experience; two Buddhists visited West Meadows Primary School; Dharmamayi and Garava! First, we experienced a fun filled assembly retelling the story of Buddha with drama role play. We also learned about special symbols and what they mean to a Buddhist. Each class took part in a workshop where they learned about the history of Buddhism through art work, the pupils discovered new artefacts and how they were used, team games where children put giant jigsaw puzzles together showing different images from the faith, a quiz where the children learned the main beliefs of this special way of life and finally the peaceful meditation. We had a wonderful day and would like to thank our special visitors for delivering an insightful and terrific workshop. Many thanks also go to Mrs. Evans – our driving force in RE. A superb experience for our wonderful children.

What a Beautiful Baby

What a wonderful pair of performances! Years 1, 2 and 6 combined to entertain our very enthusiastic and appreciative audiences with their nativity, skilfully written by our own Maestro – Mr. Ormondroyd (Thank you and well done to him.) The children were absolutely superb as they acted, danced and of course sang their hearts out. Thank you to all of the staff for their hard work preparing the stars of the stage and of course to our #WonderfulCommunity for the huge ticket sales! An absolutely wonderful representation of the most beautiful story.
