Buddhism Awareness Day

We have had an amazing experience; two Buddhists visited West Meadows Primary School; Dharmamayi and Garava! First, we experienced a fun filled assembly retelling the story of Buddha with drama role play. We also learned about special symbols and what they mean to a Buddhist. Each class took part in a workshop where they learned about the history of Buddhism through art work, the pupils discovered new artefacts and how they were used, team games where children put giant jigsaw puzzles together showing different images from the faith, a quiz where the children learned the main beliefs of this special way of life and finally the peaceful meditation. We had a wonderful day and would like to thank our special visitors for delivering an insightful and terrific workshop. Many thanks also go to Mrs. Evans – our driving force in RE. A superb experience for our wonderful children.

What a Beautiful Baby

What a wonderful pair of performances! Years 1, 2 and 6 combined to entertain our very enthusiastic and appreciative audiences with their nativity, skilfully written by our own Maestro – Mr. Ormondroyd (Thank you and well done to him.) The children were absolutely superb as they acted, danced and of course sang their hearts out. Thank you to all of the staff for their hard work preparing the stars of the stage and of course to our #WonderfulCommunity for the huge ticket sales! An absolutely wonderful representation of the most beautiful story.

Children from EYFS 2 and Years 1-2 gave a superb performance of art, poetry, prayer and song to celebrate the fruits of the earth. Many thanks to Mrs. Evans for her coordination of this event – it was simply beautiful. Thanks to all Staff for their support of the event not least Mr. Ormondroyd for the musical accompaniment and Mr. Smith for the film. Key Stage 1 Mini Olympics

We travelled with a team of 20 children from Year 1 and Year 2 to take part in the St. Mary’s Academy Trust annual KS1 Mini Olympics event at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. Children took part in sprint races, hurdles, speed bounce, standing long jump, target throw, javelin and relay races against children from other schools within the trust. It was an extremely competitive afternoon and one that resulted in just a few points separating the top positions. Our children were amazing as always and finished in fourth place! They gave their all and were a real credit to themselves and school! Well done to everyone and a huge well done to the eventual winners Royston St Johns! Thank you to Mr. Smith and Miss Bennett for accompanying our awesome athletes, another brilliant opportunity.

Summer Holiday 2017

Many thanks to Father Paul and Chris who visited us to deliver a very special assembly. Chris explained to us how Jesus taught his disciples to rest in holidays – we’re sure our teachers were listening to that instruction! We then completed our fundraising for the RSPB with our prize draws. Well done to Mrs. Fitzsimmons and our Year 2 Star for their success! Enjoy the wonderful music – scroll to the end to see who the musicians are!
