Winners are Grinners

We were delighted to welcome our friend and Barnsley legend Bruce Dyer back to West Meadows. From Bruce’s after school work, he hosted a competition where respect and etiquette were high on his point scoring agenda. Here we have photographs of the winning team. Really well done and thank you to Bruce. His Friday evening club continues after the summer holiday, a sensational opportunity for our wonderful children to work with a true legend.

Adventure Challenge Finals Day

We had a fantastic day on Tuesday at the South Yorkshire School Games Adventure Challenge Finals day at Abbeydale Sports Club in Sheffield. The children took part in four different challenges and worked fantastically well as a team, showing great team work, communication skills and resilience throughout. It was down to this performance that the team managed to secure the runners up for the whole of South Yorkshire. What an outstanding achievement and a huge well done to all involved

Key Stage 2 Rounders

We attended the final Locality Competition of the year at Birdwell, KS2 Rounders. We had a fantastic afternoon in glorious sunshine and played some fantastic Rounders, working as a team and showing great sportsmanship throughout. The first group fixture finished as a draw against Greenfield, followed up by two well deserved victories against Hoyland Common and Tankersley leading us into the final against Springwood. It was a brilliant final, however we were just edged out by a strong Springwood team and finished as Runners Up. Well done everyone and thank you to Mr. Smith as ever for his inspirational leadership of all things sport at West Meadows.

Sports Day 2018

What an afternoon we had at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield for Sports Day 2018! All Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and EYFS 2 children travelled to Sheffield and competed in a range of events. They weren’t the only athletes as we saw 2 adult races to end the day. Many thanks to Mr. Smith & The St. Mary’s Academy Trust Sports’ Leaders for their organisation of this terrific event. Athletic skills in several disciplines were tested as children earned individual points for their team tally. Some super sportsmanship was on show and we must thank our #WonderfulCommunity for the large levels of support, especially during the finishing section for our EYFS 2 hero – he moved several to tears! . Thanks to our office staff for arranging the coaches for the day and thank you to all staff for supporting the event. A super, special mention to Mr. Smith for a great day that I know all of the children enjoyed! A special experience for our special stars.

Sponsored Walk

Year 6 have taken part in a sponsored walk from School to Old Moor in Manvers to raise money for a visit to Eden Camp.  The children were fantastic and gave their all throughout the 11 mile round trip. The sun shone all day, which made it even more difficult, but we didn’t hear any complaints as the children just got their heads down and marched on! Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us, we are incredibly grateful for your continued support!

The children were absolutely fantastic in every event and as always gave their all and were a real credit to themselves and School. Overall, we finished in 3rd place out of 8 schools, which was an amazing achievement and thoroughly deserved. Well done to all involved.
