Year 4 had an amazing visitor to teach us all about sound and how it is made. We took part in numerous experiments and used prediction to work out the results. We found out that sound travels through solids, liquids and gases and that the larger the instrument the deeper the sound and the smaller the instrument the higher the sound. We called this Finlay’s rule, as he was the only one to predict correctly. We also learned now to find the node in wood to make a xylophone and that you need a bridge to make a vibration to be able to make a guitar. Did you know the tighter the string the higher the pitch?
