Year 5 have been inspired by the poem, ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes and a poem, ‘The Highway Rat,’ from Julia Donaldson based on Noyes’ famous text. ‘Give me your buns and your biscuits! Give me your chocolate eclairs! For I am the Rat of the highway, and the Rat Thief never shares!’ Life is not safe for all other animals, as the Highway Rat gallops along the highway, stealing their food. Clover from a rabbit; nuts from a squirrel – he even steals his own horse’s hay. The children chose their own animal to produce as a Highway Outlaw; their creations were fantastic. Well done everyone, some fabulous villains!
